After-School Apprentice Chef Program
The program is designed to teach cooking techniques in a fun and interactive learning environment, while encouraging creativity through hands-on instruction. The classes are held at our facility and consist of topics or categories that will familiarize the students with the fascinating world of food in interesting and innovative ways. The topics covered will include, but are not limited to:
- Proper Food Handling and Basic Kitchen Safety
- Making Appropriate Food Choices
- Food Cost Comparisons and How to Buy Wisely
- Understanding Recipes and Planning Menus
- Cooking Our Favorite Foods
- Careers in the Food Service Industry
- Exploring Countries and Cultures Through Foods
Our goal is to provide the students with a broader knowledge of foods to help them become more aware and appreciate the joys of cooking. With that goal in mind, we offer a program in which we will instruct a group of students, ages 13-17, for approximately 90 minutes. The class will be held one day per week on Tuesday or Wednesday afternoons from 4:30-6:00 pm, throughout the school year.
